Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups (492g) all-purpose flour

Cookie Dough

  • 1 ½ cups (339g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ¼ cup (250g) granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup (50g) packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons cake batter extract
  • 1 cup holiday sprinkles

Frosting

  • 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 5 cups (575g) powdered sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cake batter extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 24 tablespoons heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a second cookie sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the baking powder, salt, and all-purpose flour. Set this mixture aside for later incorporation.
  3. Cream Butter and Sugars: Place the softened butter in the stand mixer bowl fitted with the paddle attachment. Add both granulated and light brown sugars and mix on low speed until the mixture becomes fluffy and well combined.
  4. Add Eggs and Flavor: Mix in the eggs and cake batter extract on medium speed until everything is fully incorporated and smooth.
  5. Combine Dry and Wet Ingredients: Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients. Mix just until the dough comes together into a smooth consistency, making sure to scrape the sides of the bowl to blend all ingredients.
  6. Fold in Sprinkles: Gently fold in the holiday sprinkles, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the dough without overmixing.
  7. Shape Cookies: Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Scoop 2 to 3 tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto the sheet, spacing them 3 to 4 inches apart. Press each ball gently with the bottom of a drinking glass to flatten.
  8. Bake: Bake the cookies for 13-16 minutes if using 2-tablespoon dough balls, or 18-20 minutes for 3-tablespoon dough balls. Look for light golden edges and a matte, no longer glossy, top.
  9. Cool: Remove cookies from oven and allow them to cool completely on the baking sheet before frosting.
  10. Prepare Frosting: Beat the softened butter in a large bowl with a mixer until smooth. Gradually mix in powdered sugar until the mixture is crumbly. Add salt and cake batter extract, then add 2 tablespoons of heavy cream and beat until the frosting is smooth and fluffy. Add more cream if necessary to reach desired consistency.
  11. Frost and Decorate: Frost the cooled cookies as desired. For a professional look like Crumbl cookies, pipe the frosting using a pastry bag fitted with a round tip in a spiral pattern. Optionally, top with extra holiday sprinkles.
  12. Store: Store cookies in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months for long-term storage.

Notes

  • Be careful not to overmix the dough once the dry ingredients are added to keep the cookies tender.
  • Pressing the dough balls with a glass ensures even thickness and helps the cookies bake evenly.
  • Use high-quality cake batter extract for the best flavor impact.
  • Frost cookies only once fully cooled to prevent melting or sliding of frosting.
  • These cookies freeze well; thaw them at room temperature before serving.
  • Adjust heavy cream amount in frosting to achieve your desired spreading or piping consistency.
