Dry Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups (315g) all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 3/4 cups (350g) granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup (240ml) milk
Chocolate Batter
- 1/4 cup (30g) cocoa powder
- 3 tbsp hot water
- Prepare Batter: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a loaf or bundt pan with parchment paper. Sift together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt to combine evenly. In a separate large bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract. Alternately add the dry ingredient mixture and the milk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined to avoid overmixing.
- Make Chocolate Batter: Divide the batter evenly into two separate bowls. In one portion, whisk together the cocoa powder and hot water until smooth and no lumps remain. Fold this cocoa mixture gently into one portion of the batter, creating the chocolate batter.
- Create Marble Effect: Pour alternating spoonfuls of vanilla and chocolate batter into the prepared pan. Use a knife or skewer to gently swirl through the batter to create a marbled pattern, being careful not to over mix.
- Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for about 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Once done, remove from the oven and let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for best results.
- Do not overmix the batter to maintain a tender crumb.
- The marbling effect can be customized by swirling more or less, according to preference.
- Use a toothpick to check doneness rather than relying solely on baking time.
- Store the cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for longer shelf life.
