Smash Burger Tacos combine the savory flavors of classic smash burgers with the convenience and fun of tacos. This recipe offers a quick and delicious way to enjoy burger flavors with a taco twist.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Tacos

  • 4 flour tortillas (6 inches)
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon neutral oil (vegetable or canola)
  • 4 slices American cheese (or preferred cheese)
  • Fresh toppings: diced onion, dill pickle chips, shredded iceberg lettuce

For the Homemade Sauce

  • Mayonnaise (approximately 1/4 cup)
  • Pickle relish (1 tablespoon)
  • Dijon mustard (1 teaspoon)
  • Sugar (1/2 teaspoon)
  • White vinegar (1 teaspoon)
  • Paprika (1/4 teaspoon)
  • Onion powder (1/4 teaspoon)
  • Garlic powder (1/4 teaspoon)

Instructions

  1. Portion the Beef: Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and place each portion onto the center of a flour tortilla.
  2. Season the Meat: Season each beef portion generously with salt and pepper to enhance flavor.
  3. Prepare the Skillet: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and lightly coat it with neutral oil to prevent sticking and aid in browning.
  4. Cook the Tacos: Place the tortilla with the beef meat-side down onto the skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the beef is golden brown and slightly crispy. Flip the tortilla and place a slice of cheese on top of the cooked beef. Continue cooking for another 1-3 minutes until the cheese melts and the beef is fully cooked.
  5. Repeat Cooking: Remove the cooked taco from the skillet and repeat the cooking process with the remaining tortillas and beef portions.
  6. Assemble Tacos: Spread the prepared homemade sauce evenly over each cooked taco. Top with fresh diced onions, dill pickle chips, and shredded iceberg lettuce to add crunch and brightness. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • You can substitute flour tortillas with corn tortillas if preferred.
  • For spicier flavor, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the beef seasoning or mix some hot sauce into the homemade sauce.
  • The homemade sauce can be made in advance and refrigerated for up to 3 days.
  • Use lean ground beef to minimize grease during cooking.
  • Ensure the skillet is hot enough before adding the tortillas for a crispy texture.
